On September 23, 2015 a training workshop on gender and sexual diversity was held in Almaty.
The training was organized by the PEPFAR Implementation team at the US Embassy. This training workshop was developed considering the Gender Strategy and other key methodological recommendations within the framework of PEPFAR. Such events provide an opportunity to conduct effective activities in the field of HIV prevention for the benefit of gender and sexual minorities.
The training workshop included the following modules:
Review information on the US government regulations in the field of gender and the principle of non-discrimination;
Concepts of gender and sexual orientation and relevant terminology;
Meeting with a group of local activists and experts to promote discussion of gender issues and sexual diversity at the level of legislation, politics, culture, social security and health; and
Discussion of the effective involvement of gender and sexual minorities in the work of programs in the field of counteracting HIV infection.
